Academy Seasons

We are delighted to announce that the Academy Program offers an opportunity for our youngest players to receive developmentally appropriate training during every season of the soccer year. We offer programs in the Fall, Winter and the Spring.

Academy Overview

The purpose of the Sporting CT Academy Program is to provide children with the best possible opportunity to develop their soccer skills in an environment that truly understands and caters for their needs as both players and young people.

We have developed a model that will allow us to achieve our aim of developing technically excellent and innovative young players through a combination of both guidance and discovery in an environment that promotes exploration and emphasizes development.

We truly believe that it is crucial that young players are guided along their development pathway by creative coaches who provide age appropriate support which strives to meet the demands of each individual. Through following a curriculum designed specifically with this in mind our coaches promise to offer your child (regardless of ability) an experience that caters for their every need.

Adhering to recommendations made by skill development experts at US Youth Soccer and the European Model the content for our age groups includes the following topics.

Age Group Technical Syllabus
Focus is placed upon individual skill development with significant emphasis placed upon functional movement skills, ball mastery, fun and enjoyment. Players will acquire an understanding of basic soccer techniques (dribbling, ball control, ball striking) in unopposed settings, alongside finishing practices with some small sided (3v3) games.
With the emphasis remaining firmly fixed upon each individual’s technical development, participants will begin to see progression within the topics covered. The themes from within the U6 age group still resonate however, both take on & escape fakes & turns are now added alongside exposure to competitive 1v1 situations, and shooting.
U8 & U9

Building upon all of the above, during the final stage of our Legacy Program, participants are challenged to express their comfort, creativity and innovativeness on the ball through continued exposure to a variety of conditioned 1v1 activities. As the concept of sharing begins to be understood by the players, passing & receiving exercises also now play a prominent role.

Winter Academy Sessions for all age groups will take place on Saturday mornings starting at 9am at Advanced Sportsplex, 1280 Newfield St., Middletown. The cost per session is $125 and all players will receive a Sporting CT Academy T-Shirt.
The Spring Academy 2018 Program will take place on Friday evenings from 5:30-6:30 PM at our outdoor home, 395 Country Club Road, Middletown.
